✔ The Department of Psychiatry had been functioning as separate speciality in Government Ariyalur Medical college and Hospital since 2021, with both inpatient and outpatient facilities.We treat cases like Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, Depression, Anxiety disorder, OCD and other mental & behavioral disorder.

✔ The De-addiction ward for treating various substance and behavioural addiction patients was inaugurated in the month of February 2025. Here we are treating various substance dependence like Alcohol, Nicotine, Cannabis and other (Volatile) substances.

✔ We are providing various rehabilitation services for these patients like Yoga, Group activities, games, book reading and entertainment etc.

✔ We have psychiatry ward with 20 beds and de-addiction ward with 20 beds in third floor.

Services Rendered to public

The Department Conducts Out Patient Clinics on all week days. We have an OP census of around 1200 to 1500 cases per month average IP cases of 25 to 30 cases per month.
The Department provides In-patient clinics to patients who are acutely ill and unmanageable at home.
The Department has a separate Behavioural Sciences Ward catering to children referred from Juvenile Justice Boards.
Patients referred from Regional Medical Board for various purposes like pension Transfer, Disability assessment, availing scribe for writing Public Examinations, etc., are assessed and certified.
Medico Legal cases sent from the Honorable Courts are evaluated and opinions submitted to the court.
We conduct MANAM programme for the medical and paramedical students
The department also conducts MI home visits quarterly.
The Department has separate Deaddiction centre which provides both out patients and inpatients services.

Objectives In Brief| +

Mental Health Outpatient and Inpatient Services (including Diagnosis and Treatment) of patients with psychiatric disorders (PWMI), to the population of Ariyalur district, and nearby taluks of Lalgudi, Thittakkudi, Sethiatthoppu, Kattumannaarkoil, Kunnam and Thiruvaiyaaru of neighbouring districts.
