Introduction | ×

✔  The Department of Pathology at Government Medical College, Ariyalur was started in the year 2021. We have 150 undergraduate students every year.

Infrastructure | +

✔  We have well equipped lab with well qualified lab technicians who are the backbone for running the central laboratory 24x7 hours.

✔   Diagnostic tests are performed following standard protocols in various fields like histopathology(surgical pathology), cytopathology and hematology as well as laboratory medicine (clinical pathology) and blood banking (Transfusion medicine).

✔  Quality control is maintained by being part of Internal quality control monitoring programs and External quality assurance programs(EQAS).

✔  Laboratory results are correlated with clinical details and reports are issued with diagnostic precision and accuracy on time.

✔  Our histopathology lab advanced technological equipments like Grossing station, Automated tissue processor (histokinette), Automated microtome, Automated slide staining machine, Stand alone cold plate and tissue embedder, for precise cutting and staining of sections. We perform Frozen section analysis using cryostat machine.

✔  Special stains such as Periodic acid Schiff (PAS) stain, Acid fast Bacilli (AFB) stain, Congo red stain, Fite faraco stain, Perl’s stain, Reticulin stain and Van Gieson stain has been done in our lab as an adjunct to aid for diagnosis.

✔  Immunohistochemistry(IHC) is done for carcinoma Breast and lungs in collaboration with DHR-ICMR Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services(DIAMOnDS) project, Cancer Institute in Adyar, Chennai.

✔  Our haematology lab is equipped with Five part automated cell counter, three part cell counter, Automated ESR machine, Urine analyser, centrifuge and autoclave machine.

✔  Our museum has more than 300 mounted specimens of interesting cases inclusive of all systems. 15 catalogues are maintained.

✔  Our lecture halls are provided with the facility of audio-visual aids and can accommodate 150- 200 students.

✔  Our department has 2 practical labs (Histopathology lab and Clinical pathology lab), 2 Demonstration halls, Research lab and Museum.

✔  We have academic sessions for Undergraduate MBBS students like lectures, Seminars, Small group discussions(SGD), Self directed learning (SDL), Vertical & Horizontal Integration classes and AETCOM( Attitude, Ethics and Comunication module).

✔  We have theory & practical sessions with hands on training for DMLT students and Allied health science (AHS) students.

✔  In addition we have PG students under District Residential Programme (DRP) for whom we conduct Journal clubs, Interesting case presentation and slide seminars.

✔  Various research activities have been carried out by our faculties in our department.
