GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE, ARIYALUR — STUDENT ADMISSION DETAILS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2025–2026.

✔  Our department started functioning since it was converted to government hospital 1970 . The department is run by a Chief Assistant professor, Senior Resident , Junior Resident and CMRI , treating obstetric and gynec health beneficiaries. Being a referral centre we treat various high risk cases like Pre eclampsia, eclampsia , Placenta previa , Abruptio placenta , ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy , severe anaemia in pregnancy , GDM , p OPD cases We get an average OP Census of about 1500 /month 2024 which increased from 800/ month in 2021 and an average IP census (bed occupancy ) of about 550/month

✔  We do various life saving procedure like Cesarean hysterectomy , uterine artery ligation , SR cannula insertion for PPH, laparoscopic hysterectomy , myomectomy, lap recanalization,sacrocolpopexy, hysteroscopic septal resection , Lap ectopic resectionarian and lap ovarian cystectomy for gynec health beneficiaries which keeps us in par with the current standards of care enchancing the scope of our department Services .

✔  In addition ,we do various minor procedures like MVA, D&C, Hysteroscopic PPIUCD removal, Hysterescopic guieded biopsy , Colposcopy guieded cervical biopsy.

✔  We conduct periodic lecture classes(both clinical and theory) Seminars, Symposium ,Self directed learning ,Small group discussions and periodic Internal assessment tests for undergraduate students .

✔  24 hours delivery services and Obstetric emergency services are available and the operation theatre functions are performed round the clock

✔  The CEmONC centre is equipped with both the manpower and the infrastructure required for the care of the mother and the new born. Cases are referred in from the nearby CEmONC centres, PHCs and Sub-centres through 108 ambulance services.

✔  The number of cases referred to the tertiary care centre has been drastically reduced compared to the previous years

✔  This centre has become Government Medical College Hospital from the month of March 2021.

✔  The Hospital has become an exclusive Centre for the management of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID- 19) in Ariyalur district during the Pandemic. More than 80 COVID-19 mothers have been delivered in our institution.

✔  On average, the department caters to daily OP of around 80 to 100 patients. Monthly deliveries are around 250 – 300. The centre is equipped with a Labour ward, HDU, CEmONC operation theatre and SNCU. Gynaecological procedures are perfomed on an average of 30 cases per month.

✔  Family planning services including laproscopic sterilizations are offered.Training for PPIUCD,MINI LAPAROTOMY,MMA,MVA are being given.

  7. Strict adherence to clinical protocols for management of labour
  8. Training the Doctors and Staff according to NHM training materials and DAKSHATA , LAQSHYA training.

Round the clock Emergency services 24*7 in emergency OT, casualty, emergency wards and also intensive care units.

✔  Pre anaesthesia check up – dedicated to evaluate for anesthetic fitness and preoperative preparation of the patients prior to surgery.

✔  Clinical anaesthesia – We cater various surgical specialities providing anaesthetic care ( Regional Anaesthesia, General Anaesthesia and Monitored Anaesthesia Care) to adult, pediatric and geriatric patients. All the elective and emergency surgeries are done in nine major operation theatres. Services include intraoperative care, smooth recovery, post operative care and management of postoperative pain.

✔  Intensive care units – for difficult airway management, ventilator management and respiratory care, difficult venous access and resuscitative services.

✔  Pain clinic – Caters to acute and chronic pain relief including palliative care to the cancer patients.
